Frequently Asked Questions for Group Charter Road Scholar Programs
Who is eligible?
Full private charters (those exclusively for your group) are not subject to any age-eligibility, which makes them perfect for families with children or groups of very mixed ages.
On partial charters (where your group shares a program with other Road Scholar participants) participants must be age 40 or over although any adult over age 21 may enroll with an age-eligible spouse or companion. However, please note that our educational adventures incorporate a strong educational component, and activity levels and subject matter are geared toward those aged 50 and over. Each adventure is subject to a minimum enrollment requirement - typically, the requirement is between 20 and 40 people. While groups of all sizes are invited to charter an adventure, pricing will be subject to the required minimum of each adventure.

How do I get started?
We will gladly work with your group to make chartering any of our educational adventures easy and efficient. You may either visit our website or browse through any of our catalogs to find the program that best fits your group. Once your group has chosen a program, please
complete this form and a member of our staff will work with you to plan your group’s educational adventure and guide you along the way.
What is the timing?
It is recommended that you contact us at least 6-9 months prior to the start date of your desired adventure to insure enough time to secure the desired number of spaces on a program and to make the required arrangements.
What types of programs are offered?

Can I customize a program specifically for my group?
Unfortunately, no. We do not customize programs for groups. We ask that you select your charter program from one of our 5,500 learning adventures worldwide.
What do charter programs include?
Like all Road Scholar educational adventures, charter programs include:
- Informative lectures by leaders in their field.
- Course-related field trips with special "behind-the-scenes" access.
- Excursions to significant local attractions — all included in the program cost.
- Enrichment activities, such as cultural events and performances.
- Accommodations in comfortable, centrally located hotels, conference centers and inns.
- All meals, except where specifically noted. Some programs in areas with exceptional dining options exclude a small number of meals so that participants can explore local restaurants on their own — these exceptions are noted in our program descriptions, and are never hidden.
- Group transfers throughout the program.
- A Group Leader to accompany you through the program to handle all logistics.
- Gratuities, taxes, and destinations fees.
- The Road Scholar Emergency and Travel Assistance Plan, including 24-hour assistance for medical and other emergencies.
