ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
To drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway is to experience one of the true gems of the Appalachian Mountain range — this 465 mile road winds through hills and valleys, leading from Shenandoah National Park in Virginia to the Great Smoky National Park in North Carolina. Explore the North Carolina portion of this national treasure as local experts introduce you to the wildlife and diverse natural beauty of the region during stops at overlooks, picnic areas and trails. Then, delve into the history and construction of this impressive project that began as part of the New Deal era as you take in several historical and cultural exhibits along the way.

• Journey to the summit of Mount Pisgah for breathtaking panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
• Follow the Benjamin T. Long Fresco Trail along the Parkway and take in several of the masterpieces created by this local and internationally renowned artist.
• Enjoy a look at the local culture during field trips to the Folk Art Center and Visitor’s Center near Asheville.
