Program #21498RJ
5 Days | 4 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
See Chicago in a new light as you gain an in-depth appreciation for the city as a center of architectural diversity and innovation, and particularly as the milieu for notable works by America’s greatest architect, the colorful Frank Lloyd Wright. Set out on a variety of field trips as local experts interpret the most creative architectural examples in the city, including a walking exploration of historic elements of the downtown core and a look at the city from the perspective of the Chicago River. Visit Wright’s home, his studio and Unity Temple at Oak Park, and learn about other Wright accomplishments distributed throughout the city.

Highlights

• At historic Oak Park, discover Frank Lloyd Wright’s home and studio, as well as Unity Temple, designed by Wright and considered by many scholars to be the world’s first example of true modern architecture.
• Take a walk inside “the Loop” to examine significant architecture in downtown Chicago and have lunch inside the Macy’s Loop location while learning about the magnificent domed Tiffany ceiling.
• A local expert narrates a historical drive that explores Chicago from the perspective of urban planning, including the importance of the Chicago River to the city and the design of Millennium and Grant parks.
