ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderately Challenging
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Nearly 7,500 years ago, Klamath Region Indians witnessed the eruption of Mount Mazama in a cataclysmic volcanic event and interpreted it as a battle between powerful gods. Today, the massive caldera left behind by the explosion is filled with the deep blue waters of Crater Lake. Hike the trails around the lake and take in vistas of the surrounding peaks and the lake’s fascinating geological features. Naturalists interpret the geology, ecology and animal life of the lake, both on- and off-trail.

Highlights

• Hike above the majestic Pinnacles and learn how these towering needles of rock formed beneath Mount Mazama before its catastrophic collapse.
• Hike down to the edge of Crater Lake at Cleetwood Cove to see the deepest lake in North America up close and to dip your toe into one of the most pristine lakes in the world.
• Hike to the top of Mount Scott for a panoramic view south to Mount Mcloughlin and the Klamath basin and north to the Mount Thielson spire.

Activity Notes

Hiking 3-8 miles at leisurely pace, elevation gains up to 2,000 feet. Hiking options of varying lengths available.

Coordinated by NW Discoveries.
