Experience the Gilded Age days of Jekyll Island — playground in the sun for America’s elite. With the National Historic Landmark Jekyll Island Club Hotel as your base, learn the history of the island, from its colonization in 1735 to its heyday as a millionaire’s retreat. Historians lead you through lavish cottages and to view the Tiffany window in Faith Chapel. At the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, go behind the scenes to learn about sea turtle conservation.

• Leave society and enter the natural world as you explore the amazing Okefenokee Swamp in pontoon boats and traverse the Swamp Walk.
• Study the barrier island dynamics and natural history during expert-led beach walks.
• Learn the history of the shrimp industry in Georgia and seine for shrimp in St. Simons Sound.

Activity Notes

Walking up to one mile on daily field trips, some over uneven terrain; boarding a pontoon boat and shrimp boat.
