ACTIVITY LEVEL: Easy
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. Minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding, and rewarding, programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
It’s all Greek to you during an invigorating week in the Sierra Nevada foothills, where Socrates, grape leaves and an orthodox dance troupe take center stage as you are immersed in ancient and modern Greece in three areas of study at the St. Nicholas Ranch and Retreat Center. Learn why Alexander was worshiped as a hero descended from Hercules. Ponder the question, “How should we live?” — considering the opinions of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. Finally, experience the sights, sounds and tastes of modern Greece, and learn basic Greek dances — wonderful insight whether or not you’re planning a trip to Greece!

Highlights

• Study the feats of Alexander the Great, who built the first world empire by age 32, and died when there were no worlds left to conquer.
• Try your hand at creating Mediterranean cuisine during a Greek cooking class and savor Greek meals all week.
• Enjoy the hospitality of nuns during an exploration of a Greek Orthodox Convent that follows the Orthodox Byzantine tradition, enjoying Greek coffee and pastries afterward.
