Program #20674RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Intermediate anglers with some experience will cast their lines into the world-renowned freshwater trout streams of Big Sky country while learning about river ecology and riparian corridors. As you fish amid the unspoiled landscapes surrounding Montana’s Gallatin River and the Firehole River in Yellowstone National Park, a local naturalist interprets the importance of these streams within the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem.

Highlights

• With the help of experienced angling instructors & guide, become proficient with fly-casting in a blue ribbon river.
• A field day to Yellowstone Park includes natural history interpretation, the opportunity to fish Firehole River and a visit to Old Faithful.
• Move from the river to the kitchen as a nationally acclaimed chef teaches you to prepare trout as part of a gourmet dinner.

Program Notes

A four-day, out-of-state Montana fishing license and a three-day Yellowstone fishing permit are included in the program price. The group will fish in Yellowstone on Day 5, so the 3 day Yellowstone permit will allow participants the opportunity to fish in Yellowstone the two days after the program is over. Participants will have the option to purchase extended licenses for Montana and/or Yellowstone National Park

Activity Notes

Walking up to two miles carrying fishing gear, lunch, water, other needs for time on the river. Uneven, slippery, rocky, brushy terrain and moving water. Fishing two to four hours each afternoon. Elevations up to 7,365 feet.

Coordinated by University of Montana Western.
