Delaware has been a strategic point of military defense for the United States since the country’s very beginnings — from the American Revolution to World War II and beyond. Take a fresh look into the military history of “The First State” as historians and military experts share their insight into the military intelligence and espionage during the Revolutionary War, the role that Delaware played during the Civil War, and the threat posed by German U-boats along the coast of Lewes during WWII. Also, consider the roles played by female spies during some of these conflicts, and learn how their efforts contributed to the politics and outcomes of each war.

• Join an expert for an historical maritime walking exploration of Lewes, and learn about Delaware’s little-known role in keeping the Union whole during the Civil War.
• Discover Delaware’s involvement in WWII during field trips to Fort Miles, one of the strongest coastal forts ever built, and the Air Mobility Command Museum, formerly Dover Army Airfield, the location of secret rocket development during the Cold War.
• Consider the role of women in espionage during WWII and beyond as you take in insightful lectures and a living history performance.
