ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding, and rewarding, programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Considered a true “American” art form, trace the history and development of jazz through the legendary performances of Leon Bix Beiderbeck, William “Count” Basie, and Dave Brubeck. Jump into the Dixieland era with Bix playing Hoagy Carmichael’s “River Boat Shuffle.” Swing with the “Count” to “One O’clock Jump” and go to the “Cool School” of jazz, waxing Brubeck’s “Take 5.” No instrument is more readily identified with American jazz than the Belgian-born saxophone. Explore how pioneering American saxophonists such as Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Frankie Trumbauer, Ben Webster, and others transformed this instrument from mere novelty to a dominant voice in 20th-century jazz.

• Enjoy performances and demonstrations from professional jazz musicians/lecturers, Seth Kibel and Andy Fields!
• Explore jazz saxophone favorites such as “Body and Soul,” “Lester Leaps In,” “Singin’ the Blues,” and “Cottontail.”
• Relish in very rare footage of these notable jazz icons, which will set the tempo for this jazz fest week of listening.
