Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Experience the beauty of the lower Rio Grande Valley while birding in this unique location that has become a destination for birders worldwide. Through background sessions and extensive field observations, learn to identify birds by their distinctive field marks, behavior, and flight patterns. Take field trips to Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge, Sabal Palm Audubon Sanctuary, the southern-most preserve on the Rio Grande, and South Padre Island on the Gulf of Mexico. Likely sightings include Buff-bellied Hummingbird, Green Jay, Great Kiskadee, Least Bitterns, Sora, Clapper Rail, Ringed Kingfisher, Green Kingfishers, Least Grebe, Alta-mira Oriole, Chachalacas, Roseatte Spoonbills, Black-bellied whistling Duck, and Harris' Hawk. Target birds — with luck — include the Aplomado Falcon, Audubon's Oriole, Tropical Parula, and the rare Black Rail.

Highlights

• Take a field trip to the Nature Conservancy’s Southernmost Preserve, Boca Chica State Park.
• Keep a sharp eye to the sky for a potential Aplomado Falcon sighting.
• Learn about the natural history of South Texas during a presentation by a local naturalist.

Activity Notes
