Road Scholar
Program #12620RJ
4 Days | 3 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Easy
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Experience an exceptional adventure at Lake Tahoe, the world's second-largest alpine lake, with a basin that covers 480 square miles of evergreen forests and granite mountains. After a day exploring the historic town of Truckee — originally named after a saloon keeper and, eventually, a Paiute Indian chief — embark for a daylong excursion around the “Jewel of the Sierras” with stops at renowned locales such as Squaw Valley and insight into the human history of the area.

Highlights

• In Truckee, delve into modern life and the towns’ colorful past, including a trolley ride to Old Town to hear about the ill-fated Donner Party at the State Museum.
• Background sessions, including a class on John Muir, set the stage for a full-day field trip by private coach around the lake with a local historian/naturalist as your instructor and expert guide.
• While circling Lake Tahoe, discussion topics include the trout at Fanny Bridge, Emerald Bay, Tallac Historic Site, Zephyr Cove and the Tahoe Rim Trail.

Activity Notes
