EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Program intended for grandchildren from 9 - 11 years of age.

Coastal adventure awaits you and your grandchild on Oregon’s diverse and exciting southern coast. Hands-on educational opportunities will open up new worlds of natural history and unique geology for the young and young-at-heart. You’ll be busy having fun together as you learn how the dunes were formed, hike through a forest, discover the life of an estuary, learn about a local Native American tribe, fly kites and make s’mores!

Highlights

• See and touch marine life at tide pools, explore a real lighthouse and enjoy playing on the beach and toasting marshmallows around a bonfire.
• Experience the thrill of riding up and down sand dunes in a gigantic dune buggy.
• Feel the spray of the Rogue River on your face as you race 64 miles up the Rogue River on a narrated jet boat ride.

Activity Notes

Walking up to two miles per day on mostly flat terrain. One nature hike on dirt, gravel and sand with moderately steep inclines.

Coordinated by Southwestern Oregon Community College.
