Road Scholar
Program #21059RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Program intended for grandchildren from 12 - 14 years of age.

Spend an iconic week with your grandchild in the City by the Bay. Take a ferry boat ride to Alcatraz Island and explore the infamous jailhouse. Walk across one of the most famous landmarks in the world, the majestic Golden Gate Bridge. Be transfixed by the beauty of towering redwood trees in Muir Woods. Take a cable car to the “crookedest” street in the world, Lombard Street. Experience the sights, smells and sounds of Chinatown, the largest Chinese community outside of Asia. Be transported back to the Wild West and sit in a stagecoach in the Wells Fargo Museum. Watch an actual cable in action in the Cable Car Museum. By week’s end, you will know why Tony Bennett and millions of other visitors leave their hearts in San Francisco.

Highlights

A behind-the-scenes exploration of the Academy of Sciences includes express entry into the planetarium, rainforest, living roof and earthquake simulator.
Set out on ranger-led visits to Nike Missile Site SF-88 and Point Bonita Lighthouse in the breathtaking Marin Headlands across the Golden Gate Bridge.
Enjoy a docent-led field trip to a historic sailing ship on Hyde Street Pier in Fisherman’s Wharf and delight to the sea lions frolicking at Pier 39.
