Road Scholar
Program #7197RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Enjoy the intimate and casual atmosphere of spring training baseball as you cheer on your favorite players of the 2010 and 2012 World Series Champions, the San Francisco Giants. Before the Giants hit a single home run into McCovey Cove, they prepare for the season at Scottsdale Stadium, their Arizona home since 1992. Study baseball in-depth as you meet baseball “lifers” from a variety of backgrounds in the game. Meet former players, coaches, writers and executives whose insider experiences and storytelling talents will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Highlights

• Enjoy “America’s pastime” with great seats at four spring training games in a variety of ballparks.
• Meet retired players, the organist for the Arizona Diamondbacks and a member of the Society for American Baseball Research.
• Go behind the scenes of one of the most innovative ballparks in the majors: Chase Field, regular-season home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Program Notes

Lunch during day games or dinner during night games on your own at the ballparks. All four games will be Giants games unless the team has a day off in the schedule. In this (rare) case, a substitute game will be offered. For best group seating, register by December 1.

Activity Notes

Walk one-half mile; stairs at ballparks. Games attended are dependent on Cactus League schedule, which is finalized in December. March 15 program requires walking of up to a mile a day to get from your rooms to the conference center.

Date Notes
3/15/2015
This week will be housed at a hotel and conference center in mid-town Scottsdale. While not walking distance to the Scottsdale stadium, a free trolley runs to old Town Scottsdale. Enjoy a resort setting with private “casitas” and spacious grounds centered around a large outdoor pool. The extensive spread of the property requires walking of up to a mile a day to get from your rooms to the conference center, and the Activity Level is Active.

Coordinated by Northern Arizona University.
