While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. Minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding, and rewarding, programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
How do artists respond to the imperial aspirations of great nations? What roles did art and artists play in the civilizations of the ancient world? Explore these and other questions with lecturers and curators from the renowned Art Institute of Chicago, with original treasures of the art world serving as primary documents. Through expert talks, before-hours access to the museum and admission to special exhibitions, delve into the development of Classical, Asian, Mesoamerican and African kingdoms; the artist's response to the French Revolution, Napoleonic era and British colonialism; and the ideas and aesthetics of American expansionism, all while learning novel approaches to looking at, interpreting and discussing art.

• Gain access to the museum before it opens to the public for gallery talks led by the Art Institute art historians.
• In a private meeting with a museum curator, discuss collection and conservation practices and hear behind-the-scenes information about the museum’s operation.
• Includes an expert-led exploration of the Art Institute’s new Modern Wing and Marc Chagall’s recently reinstalled “America Windows,” plus admission to all special exhibitions.
