6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderately Challenging
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
In mid-September, Maine’s Hog and Monhegan Islands become a hub for bird migration along the Atlantic Coast. Discover the bustling ecosystems of these charming New England islands as you join birding experts for an up-close look at native and migratory species. As Yellow-throated Warblers, Northern Gannetts, ospreys and other species begin their long journeys, explore their habitats during expert-led nature walks and private coastal boat excursions.

Highlights

• Join members of an expert ornithologist team for explorations of bird habitats, and gain insight into the Audubon’s Project Puffin.
• Add seabirds — gannets, gulls, shearwaters and more — to your life list during excursions on board a private charter boat.
• Take an evening hike to the Monhegan Island Lighthouse and learn how to interpret nighttime bird calls.

Program Notes

So you can get the most out of your experience, all of our birding programs have a maximum participant-to-instructor ratio of 14:1. Road Scholar birding programs are conducted in accordance with the American Birding Association’s Code of Ethics. Learn more at http://www.aba.org/about/ethics.html

Activity Notes

Walking up to one mile over uneven terrain; longer and shorter hikes available.
