Road Scholar
Program #12140RJ
7 Days | 6 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Got whales? Grab your camera and get ready to see the humpback whale up-close swimming right off the shoreline from your beachfront hotel. In the winter and spring, humpback whales migrate to Maui, making the island one of the world’s greatest places to see whales. Look for whales as you embark on whale-watch cruises and snorkeling adventures led by local whale research and conservation groups. Take in lei-making demonstrations highlighting Hawaii's traditional welcoming gift and try your hand at making your own.

Highlights

• Stay in a beachfront hotel with ocean-view rooms in Kaanapali on Maui's sunny west side. Spectacular whale spouting and breaching is often seen from shore.
• Explore Maui, one of Hawaii's most-visited islands during the whale breeding and birthing season.
• Whale-watch boat excursions allow you to learn from naturalists who are researching and studying whales as you get closer to the action.
Due to the nature of this program, listening devices are not available.

Activity Notes

Walking from three blocks up to one mile over the course of the day. Some stairs, walking on boat decks and uneven surfaces. Optional snorkeling and swimming.

Coordinated by Hawaii Pacific University.
