Program #9889RJ
7 Days | 6 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Experience a wildlife-viewing safari in Colorado that puts you in sight of mule deer, “bugling” elk and sure-footed big-horn sheep on this journey from the Front Range into the heart of the Rockies. Look for bison and antelope in the foothills, and be on the lookout on Rocky Mountain National Park’s Trail Ridge Road for moose, elk, bighorn sheep, deer and mountain goats. Along the way, learn about the habitat of birds and other wildlife and discuss their struggles for survival.

Highlights

• Experience the sight of hundreds of elk descending on Rocky Mountain National Park — and nearby Estes Park — during rutting season, and watch a bull elk stand watch over his herd of females.
• Learn what makes an animal a ruminant or an ungulate, the differences between horns and antlers, and seasonal behavior.
• Learn about a threat to the Rockies’ pine forests — the Mountain Pine Beetle.
Due to the nature of this program, listening devices are not available.

Activity Notes

Walking up to one mile. Elevations of 5,000-10,500 feet.
