Road Scholar
Program #11462RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Program intended for grandchildren from 9 - 11 years of age.

Enter an enchanting and magical world as you visit the home of the red-haired orphan from L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables. Follow in Anne's footsteps as you tramp through Balsam Hollow and the Haunted Wood, and along the sand dunes and beaches of "Avonlea". A visit to a local farm offers opportunities to pick strawberries and enjoy a wagon ride, while a morning visit with a Parks Canada naturalist offers pointers for combing the beaches for shells. Take tea at the “White Sands Hotel” and delight in a traditional ceilidh of music and dance.

Highlights

• Learn old-fashioned chores and crafts such as berry picking, ice-cream making and weaving.
• Grandchildren participate in Victorian-era games, scrapbooking and attend a one-room school, while grandparents learn about life on Prince Edward Island.
• Attend a performance of the musical “Anne of Green Gables” at the Confederation Centre of the Arts.

Activity Notes

Walking up to one mile on varied terrain, slight incline; getting on, off bus; standing during daily field trips.
