Road Scholar
Program #14605RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
In 1977, composer Gian Carlo Moretti decided to bring the magic of Spoleto, Italy’s beloved Festival dei Due Mondi to the U.S. He chose Charleston because its wealth of theaters and churches reminded him of Spoleto, and there he began Spoleto Festival USA. Experience what has today become America’s foremost celebration of renowned international artists, Spoleto Festival USA, and its companion festival, Piccolo (“small”) Spoleto, highlighting outstanding regional artists.

Highlights

• Attend two nights of Spoleto Festival USA and meet some of the musicians for an insider point of view on the festival and even a private performance.
• Learn about the fascinating history, architecture and culture of Charleston and absorb the city’s unique charm.
• Attend a Chamber Music performance at the Historic Dock Street Theater.

Program Notes

For participants interested in both the Spoleto Festival and Piccolo Spoleto Festival with accommodations located in Charleston’s historic district, please see program #21257.

Activity Notes
