Road Scholar
Program #20777RJ
8 Days | 7 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
From the formidable Hudson River, through the idyllic Catskill Mountains, along the shores of Lake Champlain and into the Adirondacks, take part in an adventure like no other as you ride the Amtrak Adirondack from New York City to Lake Placid, disembarking at three important locations along this scenic route. Visit the Hudson River Valley, the charming village of Saratoga Springs and on the final leg, enter the Adirondack Park to discover the history of Winter Olympics of 1932 and 1980.

Highlights

• Recapture a bygone age as you ride the rails from New York City to the Adirondacks.
• Go inside the Rhinebeck Aerodrome with interpretation by an expert.
• Visit the site of the 1980 Winter Olympics, where the U.S. men’s ice hockey team upset the favored Soviets.

Activity Notes

Walking up to 2 miles per day, mostly level terrain; standing 2-3 hours. Getting on and off trains, negotiating busy train stations.
