Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Perhaps the most famous hiking trail in the world, the Appalachian Trail runs for 2,174 miles, from Maine to Georgia, over mountains, valleys and some of the most beautiful landscapes in the east. On daily hikes of six to ten miles, sample gorgeous stretches of the trail in Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia. Your base will be the Shepherd’s Spring Retreat Center, whose unique location provides convenient access to all four states.

Highlights

• Daily hikes take you across the beautiful Appalachia mountains while bringing you into several state and national parks as well as historic areas.
• Naturalists, "AT" thru-hikers, and others lead the discovery of your peaceful and inspiring natural surroundings.
• After a day on the trail, relax in comfort as you learn about the journey that is the Appalachian Trail and the people who call Appalachia home.

Activity Notes

Walking 6-10 miles per day on uneven, rocky terrain with switchbacks for ascending and descending mountains. Van rides up to one hour each way.

Coordinated by Shepherd's Spring Outdoor Ministry Center.
