ACTIVITY LEVEL: Easy
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. Minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding, and rewarding, programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Program intended for grandchildren from 8 - 12 years of age.

Share a magical adventure with your grandchild on Chincoteague Island, setting of the beloved children's classic “Misty of Chincoteague.” Relive the real-life dream of siblings Maureen and Paul Beebe who worked so hard to buy the pony they loved. Follow local experts into the marshes, woods and unspoiled beach where the ponies still roam, as well as other settings in town associated with the inspiring book and movie. Feel the sea breeze on Assasteague and delight in island music written just for this Road Scholar program.

Highlights

• While visiting the Beebe Ranch—Misty the Chincoteague Pony’s former home—enjoy tales of the pony roundup, which is much the same now as it was when Misty the Chincoteague Pony was a young foal.
• Cruise the waters of Chincoteague and Assateague Islands learning about ancient sea creatures—still thriving today—and the local pirate lore, including tales of buried treasure.
• Explore restricted wildlife refuge areas and come close to wild ponies, bald eagles, terrapin, deer and elk.

Due to the nature of this program, listening devices are not available.
