EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
New England’s islands and seaports have endured countless transitions and transformations over the centuries. Embark on a voyage of discovery into the mystique of summer on the water, taking in lighthouses, beaches and dunes, and the warm salt air breezes in timeless harbors. Delve into the history, art, literature and natural resources of Block Island, Cuttyhunk, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, Newport and New Bedford.

Highlights

• Trace the rise and fall of the whaling industry at the Nantucket Whaling Museum and enjoy a bit of free time exploring the historic waterfront village.
• Journey along Newport’s famed waterfront Ten Mile Drive and around the Gilded Age “cottages” of the rich and famous.
• Visit the historic Methodist campground of Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard, where a local resident shows you the gaily painted Victorian cottages.

Activity Notes

Walking less than one mile at a time. Extensive cobblestones on Nantucket.
