Program #18915RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Raise the binoculars and ready your field guide for a birding gold rush in Central Kentucky’s Bluegrass Country. Join birding experts the first week of May to identify up to 100 species by sight and sound that pass through the nearly 3,000 acres of strikingly beautiful Kentucky countryside. In addition to neotropical migrants making their way farther north, learn about Summer and Scarlet Tanagers, Blue Grosbeaks, Baltimore Orioles and many others that make Central Kentucky their summer home, occupying woodlands, restored native prairie and all the spaces in between that make Shaker Village a truly unique birding destination. Learn about raptors and waterfowl, and stay alert for a night-time Owl Prowl!

Highlights

• Learn why Shaker Village is called the national model for its effort to bring back the Northern Bobwhite Quail.
• Bird the stunning Kentucky River Palisades and experience raptors and herons.
• Glean daily insight from three experienced birders eager to share their knowledge about identifying songbirds by sight and sound.

Program Notes

So you can get the most out of your experience, all of our birding programs have a maximum participant-to-instructor ratio of 14:1. Road Scholar birding programs are conducted in accordance with the American Birding Association’s Code of Ethics. Learn more at http://www.aba.org/about/ethics.html
