Road Scholar
Program #21711RJ
17 Days | 16 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Easy
We’re always developing educational adventures that open windows to new places and probe fascinating topics. Check out our latest creations.
See all of our New programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Voyage from the five concentric canals of Amsterdam’s enchanting city center to the five boroughs of bustling New York City — but not via a direct route. In between the cosmopolitan start and finish, embrace thousands of years of settlement, dramatic landscapes and hearty people as you sail to villages in the North Atlantic’s Shetland and Faroe islands, feel the energy of Iceland’s Gullfoss waterfall, and rewind three centuries hearing French colonial musket fire at Nova Scotia’s Fortress of Louisbourg. Cap your adventure sailing past Lady Liberty in New York Harbor.

Highlights

• With a Road Scholar expert, stroll Amsterdam’s arched bridges and watery passageways to 100-year-old Albert Cuyp Market and sample stroopwafel, a signature Dutch syrup waffle.
• From Reykjavik, a field trip into central Iceland unveils the jewel of Thingvellir national park, the world’s best and most fascinating example of continental drift.
• In New York City, experience Ellis Island, where 40 percent of U.S. citizens can trace an ancestor’s arrival, explore the Met, see a Broadway show or walk architect Frederick Law Olmsted’s gem — Central Park.

Program Notes
