EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Enjoy rides in the West Virginia mountains aboard unique excursion trains featuring vintage passenger coaches of the early 1900s. See operating Shay, Climax and Heisler steam engines and let them pull you on rides along a variety of switchbacks, mountain vistas and peaceful river gorges. Visit an operating train maintenance shop, enjoy railroad songs, a dinner train and a mountain theater production, and explore the National Radio Astronomy Observatory.

Highlights

• Embark on thrilling journeys aboard such historic and vintage trains as the Cass Scenic Railroad, Cheat Mountain Salamander and the Durbin Rocket — powered by one of the rarest locomotives on earth.
• Go inside the working steam-engine repair shop in the lumber town of Cass and watch the mechanics as they perform the daily maintenance of their fleet of steam engines.
• Meet with experts at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory to view and learn about the world's largest fully steerable, single-aperture telescope.
