While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
As you hike into the depths of the Grand Canyon, from desert to pine forest, from 250-million-year-old rock to the 1.8-billion-year-old Vishnu Schist, each footstep takes you 60,000 years back in time. On the rim enjoy expert-led presentations and day hikes with insights on natural and human history. Once at the bottom of the canyon, the reward is a two-night stay at Phantom Ranch, nestled beneath towering rock walls, under ancient cottonwoods and adjacent to Bright Angel Creek.

Highlights

• Spend four days hiking in the Grand Canyon, hiking down the spectacular South Kaibab Trail, and up the historic Bright Angel Trail.
• We get the almost-impossible for you: reservations to stay and dine at historic Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the canyon.
• Hike with naturalists who truly know the canyon and share the amazing human history and natural history of the area with you.

Activity Notes

Backpacking experience a must. Two full days of strenuous hiking (17 miles in two days; 4,600-foot elevation loss/gain); two days of lighter hiking. Rim elevation 7,000 feet, inner canyon 2,400 feet. Trails are steep and rocky.

Coordinated by Northern Arizona University.
