Program #16891RJ
4 Days | 3 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Venture into remote areas accessible only by boat and marvel at the wealth of migratory birds and waterfowl that inhabit the California Delta’s 738,000 acres. Learn the story of the delta, which collects nearly 27 million acre feet of water from more than 40 percent of California's surface. As you traverse the waterways with an expert naturalist aboard a 50-foot custom vessel, keep your eyes peeled for sightings of hawks, falcons, owls and thousands of waterfowl including tundra swans, snow geese, ducks, Sandhill Cranes and more.

Highlights

• Hear tales of the two ranchers who donated land to create a town during a visit to the Rio Vista Museum.
• Enjoy lectures on bird habitats and migration as you journey along the waterways with an expert naturalist.
• Learn about the interesting mechanisms of several drawbridges as you travel through them.

Program Notes

So you can get the most out of your experience, all of our birding programs have a maximum participant-to-instructor ratio of 14:1. As all birding on this program is done from the boat, there is one expert for a group of 24. Road Scholar birding programs are conducted in accordance with the American Birding Association’s Code of Ethics. Learn more at http://www.aba.org/about/ethics.html
Due to the nature of this program, listening devices are not available.

Activity Notes

Walking several blocks at a time, irregular stairs down to dock, no elevator in hotel, rooms on second floor of hotel.

Coordinated by Road Scholar.
