Road Scholar
Program #7864RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Celebrate the arrival of spring by exploring Macon, the small city known as “The Heart of Georgia,” during the annual International Cherry Blossom Festival. Festival events commemorate the flowering of Macon’s 300,000 Yoshino cherry trees, the largest array outside of Japan. Journey to Jarrell Plantation, have lunch at the Whistle Stop Cafe in Juliette (famed for its role in “Fried Green Tomatoes”) and visit the restored Old Governor’s Mansion and Old Capitol Building in historic Milledgeville.

Highlights

• Experience the U.S.’s most expansive Cherry Blossom Festival, a month-long celebration.
• Discover and tour the interiors of Macon’s lovely antebellum mansions including the Woodruff House, Hay House, Cannonball House and Sidney Lanier Cottage.
• Visit Ocmulgee National Monument to find evidence of this area’s 17,000 years of continuous human habitation.

Activity Notes

Walking up to a half mile per day. Some stairs.

Coordinated by Georgia College and State University.
