Road Scholar
Program #21239RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderately Challenging
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Bicycle the tranquil and scenic coastal roads that line the nearly 300 miles of coastline in beautiful Door County as you become acquainted with charming fishing villages, pristine natural sanctuaries and unique ways of life in an American paradise. Led by an experienced biking outfitter and met along the way by local experts, learn about Door County agriculture at an orchard and winery, explore quaint Egg Harbor, study rare plant life in Baileys Harbor and absorb the history of the Cana Island Lighthouse. Hear tales of shipwrecks in the “Porte des Mortes,” observe daily life in the peaceful village of Ephraim and taste the bounty of Door County’s vital fishing industry in the form of fresh whitefish from Lake Michigan.

Highlights

• Bike to the crown jewel of Door County, the pristine, 3,700-acre Peninsula State Park, for a visit and introduction to Eagle Bluff Lighthouse.
• Enjoy an amusing reenactment of the namesake — Peter Rowley —and history of Rowley’s Bay, from the early days of the Potawatomi to the present.
• Hop a ferry and explore Washington Island, one of the 50-plus islands located on Lake Michigan.
