Despite its small size, Cobscook Bay off the Maine coast is one of the top birding areas in the Northeast. During the spring, experience the Down East Spring Birding Festival, which draws birders and birding experts from across North America to observe the spring migration of more than 200 bird species including Boreal Chickadees, Spruce Grouse and Atlantic Puffins. In late summer, the island again comes alive as tens of thousands of migrating shorebirds and seabirds make the return journey in preparation for fall and winter. Experience one of these special times with fellow birders and expert instructors.

• Whether in spring or in summer, check species off your life list as you encounter thousands of birds with experts familiar with local species and habitats.
• Choose the spring program and attend the Down East Spring Birding Festival to observe the largest Atlantic Puffin colony on the Maine coastline.
• Choose the summer program and explore Head Harbor Passage onboard vessels that sail and motor among flocks of seabirds, whales, porpoises and seals. You will also visit with the puffins at sea in this program.

Program Notes

Passports required. You will be visiting Campobello Island in New Brunswick, Canada. So you can get the most out of your experience, all of our birding programs have a maximum participant-to-instructor ratio of 14:1. Road Scholar birding programs are conducted in accordance with the American Birding Association’s Code of Ethics. Learn more at http://www.aba.org/about/ethics.html
