ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Take a journey back in time as you assist in preserving President Lincoln's heritage, in Springfield, Illinois. Spend a week constructing an actual privy in the neighborhood of the Lincoln Home National Historic Site, where Lincoln lived from 1844-1861. As time allows, repair and paint wooden fences and complete light landscape work throughout the site. Learn about the complexities of restoring this historic site and its components and explore Lincoln’s life in the world-class and unique Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and the national historic site.

Highlights

• Take a step back in time to work and learn about construction with site carpenters at the Lincoln Home Historic Site.
• Take part in the construction of a privy and fence repairs in preparation for the 150th Lincoln Funeral Commemoration.
• Learn about the restoration of the Lincoln Home National Historic Site and examine Lincoln’s life in the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum.

Activity Notes

Project involves working outdoors, walking up to 8 city blocks throughout the day, standing up to 5 hours (with breaks and depending on the projects), bending, use of hand and yard tools and moving materials.
