ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding, and rewarding, programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
The coming of spring to Vancouver Island means the arrival of abundant gray whales and the annual Pacific Rim Whale Festival. Enjoy entertaining lectures and field trips led by visiting and local naturalists, marine biologists and cetologists, as well as a celebration of coastal traditions welcoming the gray whales. Witness the migration of these great ocean giants as you find beauty in the marine mammals, rugged coastline, crashing surf and coastal rainforests of this ecologically rich region.

• Study gray whale behavior from shore and vessel during their annual northern migration from the waters around Baja California to the seas of the Arctic.
• Walk the Wild Pacific Trail and learn about the diverse flora and fauna where the rainforest meets the sea.
• Learn how the northern Pacific Ocean influences coastal ecology and the human inhabitants of this region.

Activity Notes

Walk two miles per day with frequent stops on well-maintained forest and coastal trails and beaches; some rocks and roots, slippery and uneven terrain.
