Road Scholar
Program #21198RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
In 1855, abolitionist John Gregg Fee did something exceptional — he founded the first coeducational interracial college the South had ever seen, and the first to exist in the nation. Today, Berea College continues its mission in the heart of Appalachia to provide a quality liberal arts education to students of all backgrounds, all while charging no tuition. Learn how Berea College has helped students move forward with education and work study training, while working to preserve the culture, history and traditions of the Appalachian region.

Highlights

• Discover Berea’s important history during a field trip to “Historic Black Berea,” insightful presentations, and a musical performance by the Berea College Black Musical Ensemble.
• Get an inside look at Berea’s work study programs that sustain the College Farm, Ecovillage and Student Craft Center.
• Tap your toes to bluegrass and Appalachian folk music, enjoy storytelling and comedy, and join in “country dancing” during evening activities.

Activity Notes
