Program #8822RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderately Challenging
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Springtime in Kentucky brings forth an amazing display of wildflowers to the Kentucky River Palisades. Formed from the oldest exposed rock in Kentucky, the Palisades are carpeted with such early arrivals as the showy Virginia Bluebells, Nodding Trillium and Dwarf Larkspur. With local experts and naturalists, study wildflower and woody plant identification and learn about the efforts of preservationists to reintroduce native and heirloom plants and animals to Shaker Village.

Highlights

• Hike along the Kentucky River with local experts to learn about its geologic history and river features, and spot wildflowers along the way.
• Walk through the meadows of the Chinn-Poe Nature Preserve and admire its large savannah of restored native grasses and flowers.
• Share in Shaker meals, take in musical performances and get a first-hand look at Shaker crafts and craftsmanship.

Activity Notes

Walking up to 4 miles; trails rated easy to moderate; uneven terrain; some stairs.

Coordinated by Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill.
