While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.

See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. Minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding, and rewarding, programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Perched on a peninsula that juts into picturesque Sagamore Lake, Great Camp Sagamore is a photographer’s paradise. On this former Vanderbilt wilderness retreat, professional photographers demystify your camera settings and the principles of proper composition. Learn to “see” your subject, whether you’re focusing on rustic, 19th-century buildings or trees bursting forth in their autumnal splendor. In computer workshops, learn how to download and enhance photos, email them to friends and family, and print your masterworks.

• Gain confidence to push the envelope of your creativity during constructive photo critiques.
• Delve into the history of Great Camp Sagamore and hear stories of the Vanderbilt family.
• Try your hand at photographing deer, birds and other wildlife in the surrounding woods and waters.
Due to the nature of this program, listening devices are not available.

Activity Notes

Walking up to one mile on groomed trails and unpaved roads. Standing for periods of time without places to sit.

Date Notes
June is black fly month in the Adirondacks. These biting gnats are necessary to the food chain for birds and fish, but are annoying to humans. Black fly bites are painless on contact, but some people react to bites with redness & swelling. Some have no reaction at all. Black fly are attracted to all scented perfumes. You can avoid bites by wearing repellent & borrowing a net jacket from us if you are sensitive to insect bites. Intensity of black fly numbers varies widely from year to year. Cortisone cream & Benadryl relieve the irritation.

Coordinated by Sagamore Institute of the Adirondacks.
