Road Scholar
Program #15514RJ
5 Days | 4 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Celebrate America’s roots, richness and diversity at the nation’s oldest multicultural arts festival. This moveable feast of music, dance, crafts, storytelling, living history and foods immerses you in color and creativity, examines America’s heritage, tempts your tastebuds, and lets you mingle with performers and artists from every state. Enjoy special classes taught by Virginia music historians and other experts.

Highlights

• Experience a variety of U.S. and international folk culture — and a big splash of Virginia tradition including string band music from the mountains, Piedmont blues, and gospel singers from Tidewater.
• On seven separate stages — five under tents with chairs and two open-air with hillside lawn seating — see performances of up to one hour, then eagerly wait for the next!
• Enjoy an expert-led exploration of Virginia’s Capitol, built in 1788 after a design by Thomas Jefferson, and view the exhibits at the city museum.

Activity Notes

Walking 2-3 miles at festival; limited wheelchair access.

Coordinated by Virginia Commonwealth University.
