Road Scholar
Program #20186RJ
14 Days | 13 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Engineering marvels, lush rainforests and magnificent natural reserves are just some of the jewels to be found in the heart of Panama and Costa Rica. Experience the natural and man-made beauty that can only be found in this region of Central America as you journey through the Panama Canal and search for exotic wildlife in sanctuaries throughout Costa Rica.

Highlights

• Transit through the legendary Panama Canal and search for wildlife as you pass through its many lakes and locks.
• Traverse old lava fields and possibly catch a glimpse of steam and gas emissions as you explore the natural beauty of Arenal Volcano National Park.
• Walk among the treetops during an excursion to Arenal Hanging Bridges, a nature reserve with standing and hanging bridges that crisscross the rainforest.

Activity Notes

Walking on forest trails under varying weather conditions; getting in and out of boats. During the 2013 and 2014 seasons, activities in Panama will be held in conjunction with Road Scholar program #9901 Grit and Glory: Exposing the Panama Canal. Separate group leaders and buses ensure individualized attention during the activities.
