Program #11537RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Program intended for grandchildren from 7 - 10 years of age.

Immerse yourself in nature and meet all kinds of amazing wild animals at the WNC, the Western North Carolina Nature Center. Its 43 acres are home to many native plants and more than 60 animal species. Learn about reptiles, aquatic critters and animal species native to the Appalachian Mountains through presentations with live animals and hands-on field trips, as you bond with your grandchild.

Highlights

• Each morning, explore behind-the-scenes at the WNC on expert-led walks through different enclosures to see animals and hear presentations on the ecology and biology of the many species.
• Take field trips to the Swannanoa River searching for macro-invertebrates, and scenic Cataloochee Valley to look for the mighty Elk reintroduced here in 2001.
• Take part in fun afternoon activities including swimming, boating and games.

Program Notes

This program is for grandparents and kids ages 7-10.

Activity Notes

Walking over low impact trails at WNC and Cataloochee, wet conditions at Sannanoa River.
