See all of our New programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Program intended for grandchildren from 10 - 13 years of age.

Let’s rough it! Bring your grandchild to the wilderness of the Adirondack Park to hone your outdoor skills together while learning about the unique history and ecology of the largest park in the lower 48 states. Take on a different outdoor adventure each day and spend your evenings around the campfire soaking up the history and rustic atmosphere of Great Camp Sagamore, summer retreat of the Vanderbilt family. Go canoeing on Raquette Lake, paddle inflatable kayaks down the Moose River and encounter old ruins and wildlife on hikes in the forest.

Highlights

• Paddle your canoe on Sagamore Lake for a breathtaking view of Camp Sagamore and the surrounding forest.
• Swing your partner during a evening hoedown in Sagamore Barn designed especially for grandparents and grandkids.
• It’s not camp without a campfire! Spend an evening around the fire’s glow while you sing songs and gaze at the stars.

Program Notes

Participants will have one free afternoon, during which time you can visit the nearby Adirondack Museum or Wild Center, or take a scenic excursion on Raquette Lake aboard the W.W. Durant.

Activity Notes

Paddling and hiking activities, plus either paddle-making or a Hudson River white-water rafting trip, depending on the session chosen.
