6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Become part naturalist, part historian and part beach bum as you discover ecological, historical and cultural treasures amid the warm, beautiful beaches of two Georgia barrier islands, returning from the islands each day to your lodgings near the historic center of Savannah. On Ossabaw, encounter a living laboratory for environmental change and learn about 4,000 years of human habitation by Native Americans, plantation owners, slaves and 20th-century artists, educators and scientists. Explore Tybee Island to see how the site of a Colonial fort controlling access to the Savannah River evolved to become an island getaway rife with history, art and culture.

Highlights

• You’re invited to Ossabaw Island for a day courtesy of the Ossabaw Island Foundation, which restricts access and allows visitors by private boat for educational purposes only.
• Step back in time and discover old but not forgotten ways of harvesting seafood at Pinpoint Heritage Museum.
• Explore by trolley the iconic Tybee Island Lighthouse and its preserved, original outbuildings.

Activity Notes

Walk up to 1.25 miles though wooded habitats on dirt roads, uneven surfaces, floating dock, steep ramp, flight of stairs. Climb in and out of a pick-up truck with a step stool. Ride in bed of truck on buckboards to and from dock.

Coordinated by Armstrong State University.
