Road Scholar
Program #16349RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderately Challenging
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Program intended for grandchildren from 7 - 10 years of age.

Hop aboard with your fellow voyagers and learn about the perils of maritime travel, beach ecosystems and discover 17th century life in newly founded America. Explore the original settlement of the Plymouth Colony and let history come alive as you interact with its inhabitants. Spark more discovery as you navigate the Atlantic’s waterways learning from boat builders, scientists, and nature buffs. Take part in data collection just beyond the world’s leading oceanographic institute at Woods Hole and then grab your binoculars as you search the waters for the largest mammal on earth: the whale!

Highlights

• Listen to the stories of dwellers native to this land while experiencing 17th century life for the Wampanoag people in a living history exhibit at Wampanoag Village.
• While onboard a certified research vessel, examine bountiful marine life as you and your fellow scientists retrieve samples and test tubes full of information immersed in ocean waters.
• How are massive boats and ships made? How do beach ecosystems function? Find out in private workshops that let you actively participate in these learning endeavors.

Activity Notes

Walking up to four miles a day on uneven terrain.
