With mild weather and the summer crowds gone for the season, September is a wonderful time to be on Cape Cod and Nantucket. Hop on a bike during this lovely time of year and explore some of the most scenic places in America as you learn about the region’s maritime and whaling history and encounter a diversity of native flora and fauna. Immerse yourself in the beauty and charm of the quaint coastal communities that dot Cape Cod and the islands, and venture onto barrier beaches to observe the shore- and seabirds that breed and rest there. Watch for waterfowl in marshes and ponds, look for crabs, starfish, sponges, coral and sea urchins along the shore and in tidal pools, and pedal to small museums that provide a glimpse of the lives of early settlers who made their livings farming, fishing and whaling.

• Cycle along the famous Cape Cod Rail Trail and explore renowned beaches such as First Encounter Beach and Siasconset, among many others.
• Examine Cape Cod's roots in the cranberry industry as well as its natural and marine history through lectures and exhibits at local museums.
• Learn about Nantucket’s architecture and social history during a lecture and expert-led walk through the island's cobblestoned historic district, and visit the Nantucket Whaling Museum.
Due to the nature of this program, listening devices are not available.
