Program #6714ENZ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Easy
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
A charming and scenic adventure walks you "slowly" — literally — through historic Parke County, the Covered Bridge Capital of the World. Experience several of the county’s 31 covered bridges as you study their construction, meet the engineers who work to restore them, the volunteers who maintain them, and enjoy the legends, folklore, and music these national treasures have inspired.

Highlights

• Examine the step-by-step story of how a community pulled together to rebuild a cherished bridge with an engineer trained in covered-bridge restoration.
• Accompanied by a bridge expert, visit many of the county’s 32 bridges — and then explore, ask questions, take pictures and walk under each fascinating bridge.
• Learn from experts about 19th century tools, timber processing and woodcraft used to construct many of these bridges.

Activity Notes

Moderate standing and walking each day.
