Program #6102ENZ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Experience the exhilaration of sailing aboard a 118-foot, two-masted schooner, the Ada C. Lore. Learn the history of her 19th-century career off the Maryland coast, then climb aboard and sail around three large bays of coastal Maine and Canada, including the Bay of Fundy. Take a field trip to a famous lighthouse and its museum, watch islands emerge from the sea during 25-foot tidal changes and meet a lobsterman for a demonstration of catching lobsters and a traditional lobster dinner amid spectacular fall foliage.

Highlights

• Experience the astounding marine life of Fundy Bay, including up-close-and-personal sightings of whales, porpoise, seals and abundant aquatic birds.
• Examine the historic past of the grand old schooner Ada C. Lore and visit the captain’s seaside village to learn about his home through his own eyes.
• Help hoist and trim sails, tie knots, navigate and feel the wind in the rigging.

Activity Notes

Ten-minute walk to boat over city streets and sidewalks. Walking up and down steep gangway to access boat with crew assistance.

Coordinated by Cobscook Community Learning Center.
