Road Scholar
Program #21196RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Easy
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
From its very beginning to the present day, one of the most popular instruments of Jazz is the human voice. Sing, swing, and scat with some of Jazz’s greatest voices, as you explore the lives and careers that were as exciting as the music they created. Investigate the legacy of trend-setting jazz pianists and their stylistic jazz piano playing, including Boogie Woogie, Stride, Swing, and Bebop.

Highlights

• Explore stylistic traits through jazz piano favorites: "Alligator Crawl," "Carolina Shout" and "Ain’t Misbehavin,’" as well as Jazz vocal techniques through "A Tisket, A Tasket," "Strange Fruit," "Tenderly" and others!
• Spend an afternoon in the Peabody Institute Archives exploring artifacts of famous Jazz musicians who lived in Baltimore.
• Visit a Peabody Conservatory Jazz studio to observe students practicing Jazz techniques. Discussions with teacher and student will follow lesson.
Due to the nature of this program, listening devices are not available.
