Program #15224ENZ
4 Days | 3 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Witness the awesome spectacle of Duluth’s raptor migration as nearly 94,000 birds are counted each fall at the Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory. September and October bring the peak migration of Broad-winged, Sharp-shinned, and Cooper’s Hawks, Merlins, Northern Goshawks, Bald and Golden Eagles, Saw-whet Owls, and Peregrine Falcons. Join two instructors with over 35 years combined experience as they prepare you for raptor identification in the field, and offer insight into the biology and habitats of your favorite raptors. Atop “the ridge” overlooking Lake Superior, marvel in the view as thousands of migrating birds pass!

Highlights

• Practice alongside experts in field identification and habitat exploration during birding field trips.
• Visit a hawk banding station and enjoy an opportunity to see live raptors in hand.
• Take in presentations by naturalists at the Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory.
