EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. Minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding, and rewarding, programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Nestled among the Isles of Shoals of New Hampshire, Star Island is testament to the old ways of living and the history of New England. Experience this special environment – listed on the Nation Register of Historic Places – during naturalist-led walks, seaside art classes and quiet moments spent rocking on the porch with spectacular ocean views. Learn about the island’s role in the fishing and Victorian resort industries, explore landmarks including the Star Island Chapel and the Vaughn Cottage museum, discover how the island is moving towards sustainability in its facility system, as you settle into the gentle rhythm of island life.

• Spend your days surrounded by the sea and stroll where artist Childe Hassam, resident poet Celia Thaxter and writer Nathaniel Hawthorne once created their works.
• Join the curator of Vaughn Cottage for a historic look at Star Island, followed by a behind-the-scenes look into the utilities that keep the island running today.
• With an island naturalist, explore the island flora and learn about the edible and medicinal plants growing at the Isles of Shoals.
Due to the nature of this program, listening devices are not available.
