EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Discover coastal New England's art, architecture and maritime and literary heritage from your base in downtown Portsmouth. Learn about the founding in 1623 of this jewel of New Hampshire's coast at the Strawbery Banke Museum. Walk along the Atlantic Ocean in Ogunquit, Maine, and visit the Ogunquit Museum of Art, one of the finest small art museums in the country. Visit the historic home of a former shipping merchant in South Berwick, Maine, and learn how neighboring waterfront towns once relied on each other for their livelihoods.

Highlights

• “Meet" naturalist, gardener, artist, writer and poet Celia Thaxter — grande dame of the Isles of Shoals — in a living-history presentation.
• Explore the home of Revolutionary War hero and former New Hampshire governor John Langdon, a contemporary and friend of George Washington.
• Savor a full traditional New England lobster supper.

Activity Notes

Walking up to two miles, uneven surfaces, cobblestones, brick sidewalks; stairs in historic homes.

Coordinated by Road Scholar.
